Public Housing provides rental assistance to individuals and families who meet income guideline limits.  Individuals or families reside in a development owned and managed by the Housing Authority of the County of Jo Daviess.

Eligibility Guidelines

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. A Public Housing Authority (PHA) determines your eligibility based on: 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family; and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the PHA will check your references to make sure you and your family will be good tenants. PHAs will deny admission to any applicant whose habits and practices may be expected to have a detrimental effect on other tenants or on the project’s environment.

Income limit areas are based on FY 2016 Fair Market Rent (FMR) areas. For 2016 the median income for a family of four in Jo Daviess County is $65,200.

Public Housing Applicants must not exceed the low-income (80%) limit for their family size in order to be considered eligible for assisted housing programs. Low income families are defined as families whose incomes do not exceed 80% of the median family income for Jo Daviess County. For example in the above chart, in order to qualify for assisted housing for Jo Daviess County, a family of four would need to have an income that did not exceed $54,100 per year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We will not process applications that are not filled out completely. If your application does not have all the required information, it will be denied. “Yes/No” questions must be answered with a “yes” or “no.” If a question does not apply to you, write “NA.”  We will not accept applications that do not have copies of Social Security Cards, Immigration cards and supporting documents, and Birth Certificates for all persons listed on the application. We will not accept applications with POSTAGE DUE. If your application arrives with postage due, we will deny delivery.
